Purple fruits and vegetables
The colour purple in fruits and vegitables comes from a pigment from a group of powerfull anti oxidants called anthocyanins and the research suggests that the health benefits of eating purple foods are largely down to these anthocyanins.
These pigments have shown potential in research to fight cancer, aging
and neurological diseases, inflamation, diabetes and bacterial infections.
Cancer research has shown anthocyanins to inhibbit the growth and
proliferation of various cancer cells causing their cells to die faster and
reducing the inflammations that may spark their production and slowing the
growth of the blood vessels to the tumors. Research is still showing that the
compounds in these foods are contibuting massivly to health and long life making purple fruit and vegetables "super foods"
Look out for blueberries, blackberries, black cherries, black rasberries,
black currants, plums, elderberries, bilberries, figs, raisins, eggplants,
purple carrots, purple cabbage, beets, pomegranates.
